The Canadian Wood Council and Forests Ontario kicked off the start of National Forest Week with the launch of their new, interactive digital map featuring wood buildings across Canada. A Nuclear First for Canada – Wood Used at the Chalk River Laboratories

The wood products industry can add ‘nuclear’ to its resume! The Canadian Nuclear Laboratories (CNL) project located in Chalk River, represents the first research campus in the country to use engineered mass timber as a structural material. The new wood hybrid buildings will receive support under the Green Construction through Wood (GCWood) Program. The Program, administered by Natural Resources Canada, aims to broaden the awareness of wood as a sustainable and renewable construction material and to increase the domestic capacity for wood in Canadian construction. NEW! Fire Demonstration Video

Wood WORKS! BC has released a new educational video, Fire Performance Demonstration Workshop 2.0 – Understanding fire design: applications. Changes to the NBCC mean new considerations for fire, with Encapsulated Mass Timber Construction (EMTC) in tall buildings as a new construction type in the code. This video provides an overview of a Wood WORKS! BC workshop at the City of Surrey Fire Department Training Facility which demonstrates fire performance with a live burn of three large demonstration boxes, including one of mass timber, and summarizes the learning outcomes essential for understanding taller and larger wood building fire requirements.
