Introduction

This example compares a glulam column example from the Wood Design Manual (2017) with results from the Sizer Program. It evaluates a 7-meter spruce glulam column under specified dead and snow loads, considering slenderness ratios and bracing conditions.

The program is used to replicate the example, input load conditions, and verify that the column’s axial capacity matches the manual’s calculations. The results confirm that Sizer provides a more detailed analysis than manual selection tables, particularly for slenderness and compression strength calculations.
