Excellence in structural and architectural wood design recognized at 2016 Wood Design Awards in BC

Inspired and innovative designs of wood structures in smaller urban BC centres and mid-rise construction were in the spotlight tonight at the 2016 Wood Design Awards in BC. Included in the awards were many impressive large public buildings including a museum, visitor centre and a diplomatic property located outside of BC and Canada.

 

Engineering Guide for Wood Frame Construction Now Available

Engineering Guide 2014 The CWC publication Engineering Guide for Wood Frame Construction 2014 Edition is now available. This fourth edition is produced to provide guidance to engineers, building designers, building officials, builders, and students on the structural design of wood elements and connections for wood frame buildings that meet the requirements of Part 9 of the National Building Code of Canada. The Engineering Guide aids designers in bridging the gap between an engineered design following Part 4 of the NBC and a prescriptive design following Part 9 of the NBC. New UBC student residence to be among world’s tallest wood buildings

One of the tallest wood buildings in the world will soon be constructed at UBC, providing housing for hundreds of students. When completed, the $51.5-million residence building will stand 53 metres tall (about 174 feet). Read UBC’s press release.
