Workshop #1
INTRODUCTION TO MASS TIMBER – DESIGN FOR GRAVITY LOADS
Monday, December 14 at 10:00 am – 12:00 pm MST

Learning objectives:
Opening with a general introduction to mass timber structures, this workshop will provide a comprehensive look at stress grades and modification factors, compression and bending design, combined axial and bending design along with serviceability (deflection, creep, vibration).

Workshop #2
ENGINEERING ESSENTIALS FOR CONNECTIONS IN MASS TIMBER
Wednesday, December 16 at 10:00 am – 12:00 pm MST

Learning objectives:
General design concepts for the European Yield Model (EYM) together with the design approach for connections in CLT (Jx factor) will be presented. The workshop will discuss design of connections including nails and spikes in CLT, bolted connections and lag screws. Self -tapping screws and timber-concrete composite (TCC) floors will also be introduced.

Workshop #3
LATERAL LOAD DESIGN OF CLT SHEARWALL
Friday, December 18 at 10:00 am – 12:00 pm MST

Learning objectives:
CSA provisions for CLT shearwalls will be introduced at this workshop, as well as topics such as kinematic behaviour, segment aspect ratio, ductility and capacity-based design. Analytical solutions based on research will be presented along with application of design concepts and use of static equilibrium.
